Welcome Susan L. Taylor!

A Better Way of Living: Creating Balance, Meaning and Joy 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM October 8, 2013 | Rochester Riverside Convention Center. The YWCA Empowering Women Luncheon is one of the area's largest and most anticipated events -- dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in our community.

Susan L. Taylor - Editor Emerita of Essence Magazine As the soul of Essence magazine for over three decades, Susan L. Taylor was the driving force behind one of the most celebrated African American owned business success stories. A fourth generation entrepreneur, she flourished in her leadership role, building the brand and guiding it through a period of phenomenal growth to a readership of over 8 million. Her success is all the more remarkable when one considers that Taylor was once down-and-out and barely scraping by, alone with her daughter. When she was 24, she found herself separated, with rent due, car broken, and three dollars to her name. Today, she continues to inspire hope and encourages us to reclaim our lives and create sustainable communities. Genuine, energetic, and spiritual, Susan Taylor's passion is to help people realize their strengths and take charge of their lives. She brings her gift of inspiration to every audience, sharing with them her prescription for empowerment, both personally and professionally, that will help them find fulfillment and success in life.

Change for Good.

The YWCA of Rochester and Monroe County has been a powerful resource for local women and girls since 1883. The funds raised through the Empowering Women Luncheon help the YWCA provide housing and support services to over 1,000 women and children each year. Your participation in the Luncheon will help provide shelter and support to more than 300 homeless women and children in our emergency housing”a total of 5,900 nights of shelter each year. Your support today will help young mothers succeed. 73% of the seniors in our School-Age Parents program graduated from high school or obtained their GED. A startling contrast to national data which indicate that 70% of teen mothers drop out of school.
